What are best formats / themes for poetry blogs?

Choosing a theme is very personal. I’d suggest you look at other poetry blogs on WordPress.Com to see what other folks with poetry are using.
    For example:
    https://wordpress.com/tag/poetry/

Note: you can change which tag you are looking for:
    https://wordpress.com/tag/tag-name-of-your-choice/
(if the tag-name has more than one word use “-” hyphens between the words)

theme I’m using does not allow extra spaces between stanzas. Do any?

Please link to a post where you have a poetry line-spacing problem, starting with http:// so we can examine what you are doing.

Your formatting for text posts on your blog follow these rules described below, but I don’t see a post with poetry. A specific link or more details will be useful to finding an answer for you.

    Usually on WordPress.com themes:
(from a long-time expert fellow volunteer on these wp.com forums:

    Paragraph breaks and blank lines

Pressing return in the visual editor gives a line break plus a blank line. If you want a line break only, you press shift-return. In the html editor, pressing return once gives a line break, pressing it twice gives a line break plus a blank line.

If you want more blank space between paragraphs, you cannot do it by pressing return repeatedly, because the HTML web standard is no multiple line breaks (no multiple spaces either). You need to add padding or margin to your paragraph in the HTML post or page editor.[*] You can add it above a paragraph, or below it, or both; change the number to adjust the amount of extra space:

That post also describes other ways to add space above, below, and to either side of a selected group of text lines via the text (html) editor. There are other ways to accomplish this in any theme with an upgrade which includes being able to use CSS.

Please provide specific examples if my answer was not helpful.
