Formatted Excerpt

  Dear WordPress,
  I am trying to maintain the original formatting of the prose, like in the feature, ‘Post Content’, yet limit the number of characters or height, like in ‘Post Excerpt’. Is there a way to achieve this desired effect for a Posts page that lists all my posts in a succinct yet formatted way? When I try ‘Latest Posts’, the spacing goes away, especially for Verse poems. I have spent four hours on this issue. Thanks in advance, ellen

  Hi Ellen! Just so I understand correctly, are you intending to list your posts on your Posts page, and also show an excerpt of their contents matching the formatting of each post?

  I’m not sure if any of the ‘excerpt’ methods would be ideal for conveying excerpts of your verses while maintaining their existing formatting; it may potentially be worth considering a setting up a brief manual excerpt for each post, that contains just one or two lines:
