Formatting a Blog Headline
-
I just wrote and published a blog post that I wanted to entitle “Dishonest Commentary.” However, I could not find any way to get the word “Commentary” to go to the second line. Thus, I got this:
Dishonest Comment
aryI tried different ways to edit this, including plugging in a return between the two words, but nothing works. Therefore, I changed the headline to “Dishonest Column.” This fits … but it is not really what I want to say. Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle this headline spacing problem? Thanks.

I expect that there is a non-breaking space between the two words. Open the post in the editor, delete the space between the words and put it back in and then update the post.

Thanks. I tried but this doesn’t help. Here is how the words look in the very small edit box for the headline: dishonest-commentary. I don’t understand the hyphen between the words. I tried editing it out, but it just reappears.

The “title” field is what will show up at the top of your post. The line below that is the “permalink” which has to have a hyphen since spaces are not allowed in addresses (along with a bunch of other special characters). Don’t worry about what shows up in the permalink. This is what I’m seeing as your blog title.
Dishonest ColumnNote the
between the two words? That is a non-breaking space. That is what is causing the issue. Edit the title, delete the space between words and type it back in. There is no rhyme or reason as to why wordpress sometimes does that, but it does. -

Thanks some more. I again tried your suggestion, but it did not work. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Here are the steps I took:
1) Went into title box
2) Placed cursor in the space between Dishonest and Column
3) Deleted space.
4) Typed space in again
5) Typed the word I want – Commentary
6) Hit the publish buttonBut I still get this:
Dishonest Commentar
yVery frustrating
I then went back to my dashboard, copied all of the blog text and made a whole new blog post, then poured in the text. This time, I gave it this headline in headline box:
Dishonest Commentary
I then hit publish
Again I got
Dishonest Commentar
yI give up.
By the way, do you see that goofy string of characters between the words of any of my other blog posts? And how is it that you can see them, but I cannot when I view my published blog?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Sacred Path
After I sent you the above comment, I went back to your comments and double clicked on the “this is what happens” link. There I see that somehow, you were able to change the headline on my blog post to “Dishonest Commentary.” It is great someone can do so. I though that one of the WP controls was that no one else could edit the blog posts of someone else. Yet you apparently were able to do so. How can this be? Of course, I appreciate your time and help. And I know you are trying to teach me. But I am shaken that someone else could change my blog post around. What is even more confusing is that my original HL – “Dishonest Column” – remains intact. A total mystery.
