Formatting cut and paste issue … resulting from last WordPress update?
-
I’m trying to post this issue again because I don’t think I explained it fully last time, and it’s now lost attention.
I use Word to create and manage content for my blog posts, which I then cut and paste into WordPress. I do this for several reasons, and it is NOT a process I wish to change. It’s worked very well since I created my blog almost 4 years ago … until this month.
Now when I cut and paste, all formatting and links are lost. My formatting is basic … bold, italics, occasional tables, and links. However, it’s time-consuming and error-prone to manually recreate it in WordPress.
I’m guessing that the most recent update to WordPress included a change which has caused this issue … or perhaps changed a setting? I’ve searched online for an answer to how to fix this but all the information I can find is from years ago.
(I tried the tip of pasting text into a Classic Text block, but that function doesn’t seem to work. As soon as I paste content into a Classic Text block, the Classic Text setting disappears and reverts to the regular Paragraph block type.)
Can anyone point me to a fix for this cut-and-paste issue? (Please note I’m not a techie.)
Thank you!!

You already got answered 5 days ago but it seems you never followed up – https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/lost-word-formatting-when-pasting-to-post-2024/
Nothing has changed on the wordpress.om platform but as already stated, it’s a bad idea to copy – paste from Word as Word doesn’t use html for it’s formatting – https://wordpress.com/support/microsoft-word/

Actually, I did submit a reply to that answer but wasn’t getting any further replies, so thought I’d try again, making sure I was clear that creating and managing my content within WordPress is not an option to see if there are other ideas out there.
I did read this document (included in the reply last time), which I appreciated. It says that cutting and pasting from Word can work but not ALL formatting will carry over cleanly, which is fine. Nothing I’ve ever had to do has been a problem. I did also try the “Classic Block” text editor mentioned in it, but as I described above, that doesn’t seem to work.
Again, what I’ve been doing has been working fine for 4 years until a week ago, so something changed somewhere. I’m just trying to track it down so I can hopefully change it back. :)
Thanks!

WordPress.com is constantly changing behind the scenes and if something has changed you can bet they won’t change it back. Saying that, my site isn’t operating any differently. But the few times I need to copy/paste I tend to write in Notepad and then add italics and bold once the text has been pasted into my post. Have you tried forgetting about Blocks entirely (I have!) and just post into the Classic editor?

Thanks for your reply and, yes, I have tried to cut and paste into the Classic Editor, at least I think I have. I’ve selected the “Classic Editor” as the block type and it pulls up a block with kind of a formatting heading. However, when I paste text into it, this block style just disappears and reverts to the regular Paragraph block, with all formatting removed from the text.
Not sure what that’s all about, but it’s definitely not working for me. :(
