Formatting issues with the Oxygen Theme

Hi,
I recently started using the oxygen theme for my blog http://vincentday.org/ — when I started using the showcase page for sliding posts at the top, the images for “recent articles” became smaller. When looking at other blogs such as http://emilyluxton.co.uk/ — the images for recent articles are stretched (which they were for me when I started using this theme). I’m not sure how to manipulate the images to how they were originally – stretched. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had to increased the featured image size for each. It was strange because, the were fine when I originally set the featured image. Any idea why that would’ve changed?
