Formatting my post to show just one image in the reader, rather than four?

    My post is appearing in the reader with four images. I only want one to appear as I think it looks much better.

    There are currently five images in my post which makes it appear in the reader with four images. If I remove one image and take it down to four images in the post it shows up with one image in the reader. This isn’t consistent however as I have published posts with over 10 images but only one image shows in the reader. Is there a way of a selecting how your post appears in the reader?

    It seems like a massive oversight to not be able to format how your post shows in the reader. It’s one of the most vital aspects of whether someone chooses to read your post or not. To not be able to customise that is very poor from the blogger’s point of view.

    Hi @misfitvinegaroon,

    Can you please share a screenshot of your reader or the URL of the specific post in question? I’ve tried recreating the issue you are facing with the same theme that you are using but I’ve been unable to do so – it seems to be working okay for me. If you share that screenshot or URL then I’d be happy to dig a little deeper :)

    No worries @misfitvinegaroon! You can upload it wherever you’d like and then just paste the link here :) I’d recommend https://cloudup.com/ because that’s what I use and it works quite well

    Hi @misfitvinegaroon,

    So it looks like this isn’t an error afterall and that WordPress.com made changes to the Reader and how it functions earlier this year. One of my colleagues was kind enough to point me to this blog post: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2016/12/14/reader-refresh-2017/ – the Reader, based on the text-to-image ratio of the post, will automatically decide the layout of the post for you.

    If you feel there should be an option to determine the layout yourself then you probably want to head on over to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas and submit your suggestion.
