Formatting Portfolios

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried creating a portfolio on my website (using the dropdown). This worked, except it included all of my clients. I separated the clients into three tags (Current Clients, Past Clients, All Clients). When I tried to use the portfolio shortcode to differentiate between these different portfolios, the formatting (which I really liked) from the dropdown was gone. Is there a way to still separate the portfolios using the tags like I would with the shortcode while still maintaining the appearance of the portfolio template?

If not, how could I go about reformatting the portfolios (using the shortcode/CSS coding) to improve the overall look of these pages?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

If I understand you correctly, CSS customization shouldn’t be required.

From the Portfolios support page, under Viewing Portfolio Projects:

The following links are created automatically once you add portfolio projects, types, and tags…

    • Portfolio Archive – http://yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/portfolio/
    • Single Project Page – http://yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/portfolio/project-slug/
    • Project Type Archive – http://yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/project-type/project-type-slug/
    • Project Tag Archive – http://yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/project-tag/project-tag-slug/

However, links to the project tags archives pages will not automatically appear in the menu. One solution would be to use a custom menu, adding links to the project tags archives pages as sub-menu items below the portfolio item. If you presently have a default pages menu, then you would replace it with the custom menu. See the Custom Menus support page, and in particular its Changing the Order & Creating Sub-Menus section.

In a test, I found that the My Sites menus page doesn’t include “project tags” and “project types” among the menu item types, where as the wp-admin menus page does. In either case, however, you may add the items as custom links.
