Formatting post/pages

    Hi,
I’m new to wordpress, trying to figure out how to properly format my posts and pages.

I’m trying to put a poem on a page with spaces in between the stanzas but when I paste in the poem or type it out, it never saves the spaces in between stanzas. It mushes all the lines together. And when i try to write a post, i can’t get it to form a paragraph with a space after. My writing just continues horizontally forever and never jumps down to the next line. and when i preview or post it, it just shows part of the paragraph.

I’ve looked all over trying to figure this out but can’t find anything that addresses this specifically.

    Any assistance please?

If you type it in, on lines where you do not want a blank below it, instead of hitting enter, hit shift-enter. That will put in a standard break. On lines where you want a blank line, press return as normal.

The web is as you are discovering is a little harder to work with than something like MS Word or other word processor.

On the long line thing, in the post, select everything in that post (all the text) and then go to the “format” pulldown at the left end of the lower toolbar and select “paragraph” (if you only have one main toolbar row, click on the icon on the far right end that looks like rows of dots in a square and that will make the second row appear). Right now I expect the editor is in “div” mode which will not wrap text or produce paragraph breaks.
