Formatting Problems
-
Hello,
My name’s Josh at blog: scribblesnbits.com (or @josheiler). I write and publish poetry on wordpress, unfortunately, some of which does not format itself the same way as the others. Most of my poetry under the ‘view all’ or ‘read more’ links aligns itself left and descends line by line as it should. However, some of my poems form one single line and a side scroll becomes the only way to read them.
I assume the problem lies with the size of some of lines I’m writing. Some lines are longer than others, in which case, (I assume) this may become the default format. I don’t know how to fix it. Please assist in any way you can. Thank you!

Hi there,
The site connected to scribblesnbits.com seems to be offline. Is the site hosted with WordPress.com or is it a self-hosted WordPress.com site? I see https://scribblesnbits.home.blog/ under your WordPress.com account, but that is not the site you are referring to, correct?
-
Oh my gosh! I’m dumb for posting the wrong link. It is https://scribblesnbits.home.blog/ and that is my word press account. So the site I’m referring to is my word press blog. I apolagize for the confusion.

That’s odd, and definitely shouldn’t be happening.
Would you please pick a short one where it’s happening, edit it, delete all content, and try again with a Verse Block https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/verse-block/ ?
If that still didn’t work, please let us know the URL of that post.

Ok, I chose a short poem, edited and deleted everything, then re-wrote everything. I always use verse blocks for the main body. I type in the title with the generic given block and usually my tag/dates with a paragraph block.
Editing the chosen poem did not yield any success in proper formatting. Here is the link: https://scribblesnbits.home.blog/2019/12/26/laced/
Preemptively, thank you for taking time on this. I wish I were better with HTML but I’m rather clueless.

Hi there,
This is how the Verse block is displayed on the theme you have selected. You’ll have to select a different theme if you want a different look.
-
That can’t be true because only three of my poems are displayed as a single line with a scroll bar to read the whole thing. The rest of them are displayed exactly as I typed them. For instance:
the others
look like this
with proper spacing
and stanzas. -

Update number two: I edited the blocks “as html” and fixed the problem by inserting ‘<br>’ between lines where I wanted it tabbed down.
Thanks so much!

Thanks! I was going to say, it’s working for me but you shouldn’t have to edit HTML line breaks to make it work.
My guess too is that @fstat’s browser was displaying the verse block as expected and yours was not.
Would you be willing to add one more, possibly as just a test draft, so staff can see what you were seeing? Also, can you let us know what method you have been using for line breaks? Some press shift+enter, for example, some just press enter, some do something different. Let us know what you find, or if you want to use HTML that’s okay too. I just think it’s supposed to be easier :)
