Formatting text
-
Every time I try to highlight a part of a paragraph in order to center the text, the entire text defaults to the center–not the part I wish to center.
How can one center selected portions of text while keeping chosen paragraphs affixed toward the left?

How can one center selected portions of text while keeping chosen paragraphs affixed toward the left?
Hi there, let’s consider this example text –
“Hello this is a good example text written
for an awesome forum thread”If I want the text “good example” to be in the center. I’ll have to use line breaks before and after “good example”, like this –
“Hello this is a
good example
text written for an awesome forum thread”
Once I have that. I can select the text “good example” and then align it to the center.
I hope this helps :)
If I misunderstood your original question, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help!!
Good luck!

I don’t believe you understood the question, so I will list the same question again.

I presume you’re working in the visual editor. Have you looked in the HTML editor? You could always manually move the opening/closing style codes to the right place in your text there.

The format is using visual editor.
The text is first created using a word processing program called “Pages” on a Mac 10.7 OS. The the text, already properly formatted, is copied from that text, and pasted on the WordPress text window. Once that is pasted, it doesn’t keep the same formatting. This is where the problem begins.
With all this being stated, I need to know how to maintain the proper formatting from text transfered from “Pages” to visual editor!

That is the issue. Word Processing programmes aren’t really compatible with websites. It’s better to type straight into WordPress.com rather than copy/pasting from elsewhere. If you must work offline WordPress.com now offers various desktop apps. This support document refers to MS Word, but the points it makes is applicable to others. You could try the “Paste as plain text” icon in the visual editor.
