Formatting using tools that were previously available.

  I have used WordPress for almost two years. I post weekly on my blog – Our Fathers Daughters. About the last two months the tools at the top of the page for “new pasts” has changed and these weird > and < etc. appear all the time. Where did the standard tools like BOLD, ITALICS, Left. right, center go? All the type looks the same now – which does not lend itself to visual interest.
  I have pasted from a Word doccument – and even that did not help. All BOLD, ITALICS, etc, disappear.
  What happened?

  This means you’re seeing the “Text” (=code) editor. Switch to “Visual”.
