former widget affects blogroll

  • Unknown's avatar

I placed a text widget for a Cluster map on my sidebar. Then I took it away, which was not easy, but seemed to work. Next, I put the same widget back in. — Now, however, the place where my widget was before acts as if the widget were still there so that the names on my blogroll have become links to that Cluster map.

I see your blogroll at the bottom of your sidebar and the links do not go to the cluster map. Sidebars are cached and sometimes take a little bit to update. Try clearing your browser cache and then force reloading the page and see what happens.

    @cantueso
I likewise clicked all the links in your sidebar Blogroll list and they did not go to clustr maps.
    (1) This is how to force refresh your browser http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/06/force-refresh/

    (2) If that does not work then try this
    The Cookie Dance
    step 1. log out
step 2. clear your browser cookie
step 3. clear your browser cache/temporary internet files
    step 4. close your browser
step 5. go back and test

Lastly, as thesacredapth said, it takes time for the cached data in sidebars to update so wait awhile and see what happens.

    sacredpath and timethief:
Thank you very much for your replies. I will try out your suggestions now and report back later.

    Good morning, timethief and thesacredpath:

I tried both your suggestions, but right now (Sunday morning) the four blogs that I put on my blogroll still open up only to the ClustrMap. However, since this is so only on my computer and not on other people’s screen, it also does not really matter, as I can access these blogs any other way without problem.

Have you done a full restart? I would expect following TT’s second suggestion AND doing a full restart between step 4 and 5 would fix things.

Just now, this minute, the bug disappeared, though two minutes ago it had actually spread to another region on the sidebar!

Strange. I saw in the forum that many people had trouble taking a widget off the sidebar. I could not do it either. So I first eliminated the text in the widget. Restarted. Then moved the widget.

Anyway, thank you very much for your suggestions. I think the problem is really solved now. (Touch wood).

YAY! I’m happy to hear that this is no longer an issue. Happy blogging. :)
