Fortune theme: featured image is too dark

  Hi I’m really new to this but I like the fortune theme but the featured image on the first page is so dark (in the example it’s the picture of the mountains with the words “Build your Business with us”.

  Is there anyway to upload a picture without it becoming dark? Like just keep it transparent?
