Forum posts: Last Poster and Freshness error

    Dear Staff,

    Sometimes I do encounter situation like this:

    When I leave a message on WordPress.com forum thread, the message is saved but the Last Poster and Freshnessdo not appear updated in a thread list like this https://wordpress.com/forums/forum/support/.

    Also, that brings double work for Staff, as seems that Staff does not see my last message in their system and reply on top, like here:
    https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/trouble-accessing-website-through-wordpress/#post-3685137

    One of the reasons why that is happening may be the refreshing of the page before pressing the post “Submit” button. I always refresh a page before submitting a post, to see if some new posts appeared while I was preparing my text. I thought maybe I do “submit” too early, when a page has not refreshed yet. But still it happens from time to time and I see that this happens not only to me.

    Do you have any ideas how to avoid this?

  • Hi there!

    In the example you linked to, what happened is that I opened a bunch of threads before you posted your reply, so I didn’t see it. That’s why we doubled up; it sometimes happens :)

    Sometimes, however, we have some caching issue on the forums so, if your post does not appear, feel free to modlook it with a tag like caching issue; we’ll recover the post for you.

    Hi staff-mckluskey,

    Thanks for clarification :)

    if your post does not appear, feel free to modlook it with a tag like caching issue; we’ll recover the post for you.

    Well, my post does appear in the thread, but not accurate info showed for it on the thread list like this: https://wordpress.com/forums/forum/support/.
    It shows:
    “Post Count” one less than the correct amount is;
    “Last Poster” OP, not me;
    “Freshness” OP post time, not the time of my post.

    If there are no other ideas, I will wait a bit longer between refreshing the page and Submitting a post, hope that is the reason.

  • Ah, okay, I see what you mean. Again, it’s caching issues. It will sometimes happen without any particular reason. I’ll talk to the team, but AFAIK, nothing can be done to prevent it.
