  I was thinking that it would be a good idea to add some message boards to my blog. It would be a great way for visitors to communicate with each other, and discuss things, as well as provide feedback for my blog. Does anyone know if you can add forums to a WordPress blog without using a plugin? And if I need to use a plugin, will it cost money?

  Yes. There no message boards, forums or wikis that you can embed into a free hosted WordPress.com blog because there is no FTP access and we cannot upload plugins. However, you have three free workaround forum options: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/04/23/wordpress-com-forum-options/
