Forums and Separate Logins

    Hello,

    I’m unsure if I need to have an account with WordPress.com or WordPress.org. I’m creating a Student Portal and need a forum and separate logins for each of my students as well as a couple of pages to add downloadable study materials. Is this something I can do with WordPress? And what would be the cost I’m looking at to do this? I need to have it finished by december 2014.

    Hi Alarna,

    A WordPress.com site could do most of what you need except for the forum part. While there is no direct forum functionality, there are some options that might work.

    If those don’t work for you then you are going to need a self hosted install of WordPress. With a self hosted WordPress site you could add a plugin that adds the forum functionality. To do this you are going to need to check out the WordPress.org site and select a hosting company.
