Forwarding domain to Squarespace

  I have a domain with wordpress, but want to forward it to my squarespace account.
  I’m following the guide on squarespace (http://help.squarespace.com/customer/portal/articles/413088-mapping-a-domain-general-instructions-)

  I did step one (add CNAME) and http://www.bretthowephotography.com is pointing to squarespace
  But I don’t know how to do Step 2 in wordpress. I need to forward the root domain.

  Any pointers?

  Hi there,

  There is no way to forward your domain’s root within our system. With that said, I can point your domain towards your Squarespace IP address. If you can find the IP address within your Squarespace control panel, I can set your domain name towards that and it will resolve without an issue!

  I couldn’t find the IP in my control panel, and when I talked to squarespace support, they said I will need to transfer my domain to another host to use it with Squarespace.

  I’m sorry to hear that. I had thought that Squarespace provided an IP for their servers. My apologies.

  In order to transfer your domain, you can follow the instructions included right here:

  Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

  Your domain does have to have been registered at least 60 days ago. It looks like your domain is either right at 60 days or it will be in the next day or so.

  I’m not familiar with DNS records.
  But according to Squarespace you can add an A record. Depending on the provider it is a different IP (64.99.80.30 for hover.com, 65.39.205.61 for 1&1, or 50.63.202.1 for goDaddy).
  Is that the IP you are looking for?

  I’ve gone ahead and set your IP to the GoDaddy IP, however when I do research into that IP, it appears to belong to GoDaddy, not Squarespace. I think they’ve given you one of GoDaddy’s IPs. I can’t imagine why.

  Somewhere in your Squarespace interface, there is likely a domain interface which will tell you that your domain is pointing incorrectly. It will tell you the IP is wrong and it should be pointing to a specific IP. If you could send me that, I’ll fix it for you!

  Ok, according to squarespace the A Record should point to 65.39.205.61

  Alrighty! I’ve gone ahead and set your IP to 65.39.205.61, and I’ve verified that it’s one of SquareSpace’s IPs, so it should be good to go! Here’s hoping.

  Just one more question, is this something I could have done, or something you had to do?

  Technically it’s something you can do, but it’s quite complicated and so we tend to do it for users. If you’d like I can explain it, but if you only have one other domain that you’re going to be pointing elsewhere I’ll be more than happy to do it for you!
