Forwarding Traffic

    Hello all,

I have recently moved off the wordpress.com software and onto the self -hosted wordpress.org software. I ported all my posts over with me, but am seeing that lots and lots of hits are still coming into the .com version. Is there a way to get traffic that comes to a wordpress site to forward to another site hosted on wordpress software?

    Cheers,

Depends what the URL of the Wp.com blog is.

Ah. Well there is rumoured to be some complicated workaround, but I’m afraid I don’t know how to work it and I can’t find it on the search. It’s not easy, though.

Usually we recommend people set a static page at the front of their old blog with a link to their new blog. And the BEST thing is to use the domain upgrade early in a .com blog’s life, so that when you move all links to the WP.com blog move with you, and you save all that google juice. Too late for that with this blog, though.

    Drat :)

I know it’s drastic, but if I were to just delete the WP.com version, what would people linking to that page get to? A generic “does not exist anymore” WP message? Could that message be set to inform them of the new location?

Alternatively, is there a way to make every single page have a “we’ve moved” message? The static top of the blog page is good, but people don’t always come in via the home page.

    Thanks much for the help.
