FOUT with Escutcheon theme
-
Hello, I’m very new to this, but I’ve got a simple blog for my writing. Whenever I swap pages on the site, I get a brief flash of unformatted text. I’ve downloaded a few optimization plugins and tried various things to inline or preload my js and css, but have not had much luck. Is there an easy way to resolve this issue?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
This is expected if you use a custom font on your site. The way custom fonts work on WordPress.com, they’re among the last resources to load, so we still initially load and display the theme’s default font while waiting for the custom font. This is so that people on slower connections don’t have to sit staring at a blank page while waiting for the font to load.
In your case it’s further exacerbated by the fact that your theme loads first the content area, then other sections like the sidebar, instead of loading the entire layout at once.
I see you already have custom CSS to try and prevent this – you should actually just use one of those three snippets of CSS at a time, else they just end up overriding each other. But if those don’t work, then there’s not really anything else you can do apart from sticking with the theme’s default font.
You can perhaps try using a plugin like Easy Google Fonts instead of the built-in custom fonts, but I’m not sure if that will help.
By the way, your Business plan gives you access to both 24/7 live chat and priority email support, so you don’t need to post in the public support forums for help with questions like these. You can reach those at any time by clicking the Help icon that appears bottom-right on all the My Sites pages, or else via the direct link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Okay thanks for your quick response. Digging into Easy Google Fonts now, and will use the live chat/email support in the future.
