Fraudulant activity – how do I speak with someone!?

  • Unknown's avatar

I was charged, had no idea I even had an account, I logged in with my email, turns out I do? Had to reset my password, to find out I have this free account in my name, with no billing in record. I can’t contact anyone about getting a refund. Someone please contact me – I’m not ‘Morganis’

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

There should be a transaction ID on the bank statement that you can use to get information on this charge.

If you aren’t sure about the charge on your bank statement, you can fill out the form at http://wpchrg.com and it will help you find the correct account along with what you were charged for. You an also reach out to billing support there directly.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

I submitted that form, and I haven’t heard back – it’s been 2 days. Is the customer service team behind? Given that this doesn’t even seem like my charge in the first place, and that I had to jump through hoops to even contact your team, this is really quite a frustrating experience

  • You should have heard back by now, but I also don’t see any submissions for it under your account.

    Try https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?whywasi=charged instead.

    Sorry about that!

    Thank you, Macmanx & Darnelldibbles

Now it’s not working. The only “submission” button for the form on that site is another “contact us” button that when clicked, circles me back to submit another question to this forum. What is going on here?

I seriously need someone to email me directly. I’ve spent hours now caught up in this abyss of no customer service except a public forum, and a false charge with no account except a free account I created 4 years ago.

  • Hmm, I’m not sure why that’s not working for you. We can look into that.

I usually use the form here:

    Why was I charged?

Can you give that a try?

Yes, I tried that now and before. It says “Domain Mapping” for my site that I purchased through GoDaddy, but had NO idea it had anything to do with wordpress. As far as I knew, the GO Daddy domain was good for 2 years (not one. I purchased the domain one year ago I checked on godaddy about a month or two ago and saw that no charges were coming up.

Once again, no on notified me of this charge before it happened, not months, weeks or days before. There’s no record of this transaction, or reason other than two words and no record on my “billing history” in my account. WHY am I paying $50 for my Go Daddy domain to WordPress?? I never even used that domain for anything!

Really don’t know why I need to have this conversation on a public forum this is getting ridiculous

  • Hmmm…now that you are explaining more of the situation, this may not be a charge related to us. Do you know the URL of the domain you were charged for? Have you contacted Go Daddy about this? It sounds like the domain is attached to a self-hosted WordPress.org site, not a site hosted with us here at WordPress.com. You can read the difference here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you can provide the domain, I can confirm, but if you see nothing on your bank statement that had a WordPress.com trans ID, this may be related to a charge coming from a host other than us, probably GoDaddy.

    Thanks,

The charge says this: “RECURRING PAYMENT AUTHORIZED ON 07/17 WORDPRESS [id redacted] HTTPSWORDPRES CA”

I’ve contacted Go Daddy, it’s not their charge, and they told me to contact the bank. I’ve contacted the bank and called it in as a fraudulent charge, but they recommended I contact WordPress.

I’ve tried and tried and tried to contact wordpress.org but I can’t even post on their forum without an account. They don’t have an email or phone number, and not even a “message” button on Facebook.

I tried logging in with every email address I think I’ve used in the last year, and nothing was recognized. I tried creating a new account, and it won’t take a gmail account. So I’m at a loss there.

I Tweeted @ wordpress.org and got a reply that they don’t charge anything, so it had to have been wordpress.com. On Twitter, WordPress.com replied and said they will email me.

I sure hope I get emailed, finally

    The domain is johnsoncommerce.com

  • Excellent, now that we know the domain name, I’ve found the charge. :)

The reason you’re having trouble, is it was all purchased under a different account.

So, it appears you have access to more than one account here.

If you log in under the proper account, you can cancel and refund it from https://wordpress.com/me/purchases easily.

That just circles me back to my morganis22 account that is free and has no billing history

I don’t KNOW what my “proper” account is – that is the whole issue.

  • morganis22 is not the correct account.

The username on the account matches the domain name.

To recover the account or reset the password, please follow the steps at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

  • Unknown's avatar

Using the account recovery form, I’ve tried everything under “Please enter a receipt or transaction ID: ” – it keeps giving me the error “The receipt does not appear to be valid.”

I’ve tried about 10 different combinations of the transaction ID and it isn’t accepting anything

As the member of staff explained above have you tried logging out of this incorrect account and logging in to WordPress.com with the username johnsoncommerce (and the correct password). If you don’t remember the password add the username here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/
If you do remember the password and can reach the account cancel the domain mapping/upgrade here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmm you’re the first to tell me to log out of this account as my first step.

I tried it and then tried logging back in with that username, and resetting my password. The PW reset link is sent to the “associated email address” which I DON’T KNOW. I checked all my emails – it’s not there.

I may not have access to whatever email I signed up with at all.

The account recovery form sounds like my best bet right now, but it isn’t accepting the transaction ID (even though this form did- http://wpchrg.com)<< I really think help with a correct transaction ID will help now.

[[and more aggravating, the account recovery form won’t contact me at my primary email because it’s associated with this account ]]

The correct username was only created 16th August 2018. What email address were you using at that time? How many email addresses do you have? Would you have used a business email address? If it’s a Gmail address have you checked all the different folders/spam? (Just thinking out loud if it was me in this situation).
PS: Anyone else seeing this thread….write down your password and save yourself a lot of hassle down the line….

I have one primary email address, which is the one used for this, and yes I’ve checked all of the folders, filters, re-routes.

About 1 year ago, I had created a “jonsoncommerce” email address as well, which I realized was accidentally misspelled it so I created a second spelled correctly. Checked all folders in both of them.

I have a “junk” email that I created along with my facebook probably 12+ years ago (it’s from Yahoo it’s so old) – regained access to it after years of neglect last year. Checked it too; still nothing.

I had a school email in college that I haven’t been able to access in 4 years.

I’ve been given about 3-6 emails from various clients with whom I’ve worked in the last 10 months. Oddly enough, my first freelance gig ever was in September. So all of those are out.

The only email missing that I still had in July 2018 would be for my old job. I don’t have access to that one.

TL;DR – Yes, I put a lot of thought into this and tried them all.

I need another solution.. I think the account recovery form will work, if anyone can advise me there
