Fraudulent Charge
-
On March 8th I was charged for $72 but I do not have a wordpress site and nothing appears in the Purchases section of my profile. This charge was not requested or authorized by me.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there!
I took a look, and it doesn’t look like there’s any history of purchases, transactions, or billing activity under the account you’re currently logged into, so we’re limited to what we can help with and advise here.
If you enter the charge details at https://wpchrg.wordpress.com/ we should be able to help you with this.
The transaction ID needed will be on your bank statement as
WordPressfollowed by a ten-digit letter/number code. They’ll look like this:WordPress XXXXXXXXXXIf you see a partial transaction ID, you may need to contact your bank directly to get the full ID needed.
If the charge on your bank statement does not follow that format, the charge was not made here at WordPress.com.
I hope that helps!

My goodness! I had completely forgotten about that site. It looks like I last logged in in 2017. As embarrasing as that is to me, I am grateful though. I would like to get that site going again. The problem now is that I have no idea what email I used for that site. I also do not know my username or password. Can I talk to someone about gaining access to my control panel again?
Thanks!

My name ‘Matthew’ appears in the about me page if that is any proof that the site is mine :-)

No worries. Since you have access to the charge details you can use those to regain access to the account in question. DO NOT POST THOSE HERE. Instead, you’ll add them to the account recovery form: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/
Write back if more help is needed.

I typed the exact transaction ID that I used to identify the charge into the account recovery form, but it says “The receipt does not appear to be valid.” :-( Have re-checked it several times and not sure what to do now. This tran ID worked to identify the charge…

I gave it a rest and tried it again this morning. The form is not accepting the transaction ID that I used to identify the charge.
