Surely you cannot be referring to this outdated spacial form months ago that no longer exists.

The special sale covers all of Friday, November 29, 2013 for all US time zones. Sale started midnight today, and ends on 12:00AM PST on Saturday, November 30, 2013. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/11/29/black-friday-special/

There is no current free trial of any kind in 2014. We all pay the same amount at the time of purchase.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase.

After you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog from the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades.

See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

See here for mapping a sub-domain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

@TT – Jennifer pointed out yesterday that some Upgrades now have a 14 day trial – I looked at Dashboard >> Store and found that a couple of the upgrades listed had a Trial button –

You have got to be kidding me. There is no announcement of that here http://en.blog.wordpress.com.

    Tagged for a Staff response!

You have got to be kidding me.

Not at all – my site shows Trial for Video Press, CSS, Unlimited Themes, and Business Package.

Yes a bit redundant since I think all of those except for part of the Business package (domain registration) have 30 day refund windows anyway.

    @auxclass
What I meant by: “You have got to be kidding me.” was the fact that there had been no announcement made.

  • Unknown's avatar

I had not seen any announcement either – but then we all know that WordPress.COM ALWAYS announces these things – Right? Never a surprise change? :)

    @auxclass
Don’t get me started … as my hubby says: Never poke a grizzly with a twig. ;)

Makes sense to try before you buy (where possible) and it’s much easier than dealing with refunds after the fact.

But regardless, it seems the OP is talking about buying a domain name and since there is no option to try this as an individual upgrade before buying, I have my doubts that it would be possible to do so with a bundle.

Not everything around here gets announced, as we long-timers should probably know. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Good point Jennifer – Domain Name registration is a 48 hour refund window (Internet standard & rules) which is just long enough to check spelling and have third or forth doubts about the new domain name (one friend of mine went through I think 4 domain names registered then refunded before magic #5)

Yes the refund process can be a bit tough at times, so no charge for 14 days does make sense from the standpoint of taking less staff resources to cleanup refund problems or questions.

Thanks for that. Tagging for Staff removed.

We have soft-launched a 14 day trial for the upgrade bundles. Basically, it’s the same as purchasing the upgrade outright but we’re allowing people the option of a two week trial to try out the Premium or Business bundles before we charge their cards.

You need to enter a valid address for your new WordPress.com site and then when you choose the free trial you will need to enter in a valid credit card for billing purposes, which we will charge if the 14 day trial is not cancelled.

  • Unknown's avatar

@jackiedana- How does the 14-day trial work with the domain name and mapping upgrades included in the bundles?

  • Unknown's avatar

If a user opts for the free trial, they can register a domain.

In this case, they will not be able to cancel the free trial within the 14 day window without either canceling the domain registration or paying for the domain registration separately.

  • Unknown's avatar

@Jackie – since the internet standard seems to be 48 hours for domain name registration cancellation, does this mean that WordPress.COM will eat the registration fee if the trial is canceled at say the 13 day point?

I am assuming then that you think there will not be that many cancels or people will opt to keep the domain name so you will not have that many charge backs, since I can’t believe that Wild West domains would change their policy?

    thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

@auxclass, this is an internal policy that does not involve Wild West Domains, and like with all other domain cancellations we will inform users that if they cancel a domain, they may not be able to register it again elsewhere.

Domain cancellations are relatively rare all things said, so it shouldn’t pose much of an issue, but we’ll be monitoring how this works out over time.

@Jackie – I thought that might be the thoughts, thanks for confirming things – good luck with the new program

    Thanks
