  1) How can this be free, when all options I find have a price tag? 2) How do I find the free option?

  Hi there!

  You can create a free site by choosing Free plan and using a free subdomain, like .wordpress.com or .home.blog. Type the whole address, including the extension if you do not see it in suggested names.
