Hi there. I’m a designer getting back into WordPress. I recently disconnected my old website from WordPress and I’m trying to get my new domain connected so I can start tinkering away. However, whenever I try to start, I’m forced to click a plan that I have to pay for. And when I get to the Plans page that includes the free option (what I’ve always known WordPress to be — free), I’ll click on the free option and it just leads me to the same page where it forces me to click a paid plan. I don’t want to pay for WordPress. That’s the whole thing about WordPress. You guys are free, right?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Yes, hosting your site on WordPress.com is free. However, if you are wanting to use your custom domain, you have to purchase a paid plan:

Are you trying to map or register a custom domain?

Can I edit my site to get it the way I want to under a free wp domain and then switch the site over to my domain I already own?

  • @mcescher97, sure thing. You’re welcome to set up the site as you’d like it, and just add a plan when you need its features.
