  I can see the account was created, but I did not choose that username. Would one have been automatically generated for me? I was trying to follow steps through a course I am taking, but the process is not the same as the course directs, so I think I missed a step somewhere.

  No, there would be no automatic username registered for you. You can change the username though:

  What course are you taking and what are you trying to achieve? Maybe we can help clear out your doubts.

  I am taking an Ed2Go WordPress course so I can manage a non-profit’s website. In the course, it gives steps to create a WordPress.com account in order to add Jetpack. The steps in the lesson use screen shots and they no longer match up with the WordPress.com website process.
