  I am trying to set up a free account for my school assignment, but I keep getting redirected to choose a paid domain. How do I do the actual free account?

  You have a free account you are currently posting from. All WordPress.com accounts are free. It is sites that can be free or paid for. Just “start with free” and choose a subdomain ending in .wordpress.com. Sites with custom domains need a paid plan.

  Thank you for your reply. I originally selected “start with free” and chose a subdomain ending in .wordpress.com. Now that I have the site fully set up, when I click “launch site,” it is redirecting me to choose a domain and the .wordpress.com option is gone.

  Hi @saucierjulianna

  When you launch your site you are taken to a new page where you can pick a custom address but this is optional. Do you see the option at the bottom to skip the purchase and continue with a free site?
