I’m planning to start a WordPress blog with a free account. My plan is to have a basic site while we start getting followers and then move to a premium upgrade. In that case, is it easy to continue with the same content even though the domain is going to change? Will followers find us easily even if the web domain changes? Thanks!

Your content will be exactly the same, as if a domain change never happened. :)

Yep! You can set your domain as your Primary Domain so that all traffic to your old URL will redirect to your new custom domain. This includes individual posts and pages as well. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain
