Free blog

I want a free blog. It appears there is a cost associated with this blog that I just created: Deadbeatdadsblog.com. How do I undo it and just sign up for a free blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Blogs here are free – BUT – during the signup the up-sell for for the upgrades seem to be a bit in your face –

    Go to

Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades >> Cancel EVERY Upgrade

You have 48 hours to cancel the domain name – but DO IT NOW!

    But DON’T delete the blog

in case you have trouble I will flag this for staff attention

    @bonogua

You can certainly have a free hosted site on WordPress.com! Your site deadbeatdadsblog.wordpress.com is live and online and ready for you to use as it is.

There is no obligation to purchase any of the upgrades available on this platform in order to have a live and active site here for no charge.

WordPress.com is a business, and as such they need to make money in order to support the free hosting. The latest sign-up form is perhaps more insistent than clear about the “opportunities” to upgrade vs using this platform without cost.

Please be assured that you can certainly use a site on WordPress.com without those additional charges.

If you need help getting started, allow me to recommend this helpful tutorial to get acquainted with this platform:

    Hello,
I may be bit confused but I was under the impression that my blog will be free of charge. Ive just had a call from my bank saying that there was an attempt of 162.57 GBP.
What shell I do? What is the charge for?
    Thank you

There is no charge for a blog on WordPress.com, but at signup we do display various options for upgrades. You can choose to continue with a free blog and never purchase any upgrade, and your blog will always work just fine.

@pavlakess it looks like that charge is for the custom domain you purchased for your blog, biraciallife.com. That was an option you chose on signup.

Hello, thank you for your quick answer. What would you advise me to do now, is it reversible? How can I unsubscribe from the domain but keep the blog?
    Thank you

It’s me again, I’mm very blond I think, but I just don’t get it. When I go on my billing history I can actually see charges for the domain as 18,-USD and 13,-USD for registration, but why would they try to charge me for 165,-?

  • Unknown's avatar

@pavlakess, all I see on your pavlakess account is $18 for a custom domain. I do not see any charges or previous transactions other than that.

Thank you, that is all I needed to know, now I can confirm with my bank that I do not recognize and didn’t authorize the payment. I thought that during my registration I didn’t read small print or some hidden charges properly and just subscribed to something worth 165,-USD.
    Thank you again.

    You’re very welcome.

If you can get more details from your bank, we can definitely look into it further. You can contact me via email with more specifics if necessary. If you do so, please include my name in the subject line and a link to this thread in the email itself.

I will, thank you so much. They are saying that the money were requested from my web site as from biraciallife.com…..
So I’m not sure if I have done something wrong or if is it some mistake which I ‘m hoping for.

http://biraciallife.com/ – the domain name is purchased through WordPress.COM and mapped to a blog here. So at some point charged for domain name renewal & domain mapping are valid assuming that you want to continue on with the blog name & identity

  • Unknown's avatar

no charge for blogs in wordpress.com… maybe you made a mistake during your application and you chose the paid domain .com

@pavlakess: If you have written documentation of an erroneous charge, please forward it to me via email. For now, I’m going to close this thread.
