Free Blog?

    I am trying to set up a blog. I already have a domain name through GoDaddy but I can’t forward it without an address. When I walk through the steps to set the blog up it wants me to either buy a domain name, get one free with a purchase, or use my own. When I type in the domain name that I already own it says it is not registered.

    Do they not offer free blogs anymore?

    Hi @overthehillhomesteading, you’d need to pay for hosting to connect a custom domain, but you’d be welcome to select a free address (like overthehillhomesteading.wordpress.com) and then use GoDaddy’s domain forwarding to redirect to that.

    I’d recommend using regular forwarding rather than “Framed” or “Ghost” redirect, just for usability and SEO reasons.

    When you launch the site, you’ll be prompted again to add a custom domain. You can skip it and use the free address with a free plan.
