FREE blog registration?

  I just started using your service for the first time and so far it’s been difficult! All I am trying to do is register a new blog (a 5 second process) but your site will not allow me to register a FREE one. Every name I plug in is already taken (i’ve tried many) and your system does not offer free names to choose from. So, how do I get a free blog with a free address as you promise here? Thank you.

  Please understand that WordPress.com does not recycle blog names. There are reasons for this.

  Please read that article, but here is a very small excerpt from it:

  Think about it: imagine you have a blog for a while but then decide to delete it for personal reasons. We then let someone else take over the name. A year later you get an angry phone call from a friend or relative who has clicked on an old bookmark, reads something offensive, and thinks that it was published by you. This is precisely why our policy is, and will remain, in place.

  Whatever name you choose, you can easily add a number before or after it, substitute a number for a letter (for example: use “0” instead of “o” or “1” instead of “i” or “5” instead of “S”, and so on).

  Another option, though it probably won’t work very well, is to ask the owner of a site you want to take over the name of if they would be willing to transfer that name to you.

  If you have found names which are reserved, or blogs that appear to be unused for years, please realize that some people open accounts on WordPress.com in order to access private blogs, or to access Jetpack or Akismet, or simply because they intend to start a blog “sometime.”
