Free domain for 2 weeks

  Dear Support Team! I registered my domain at WordPress through a 2 weeks free trial…Within the time I decided to purchase the same domain at another hosting service…so I canceled the one I purchased at wordpress…now I try to register the same domain again through another host, because its cheaper and than use wordpress again..but it appears that wordpress did not cancel my domain purchase…the email I got from wp says: “Please confirm you would like to cancel your domain”..thats what I did..but I don´t understand why I can´t purchase it now through another hosting service…I know it would have been smarter to transfer the domain but I did´t know that before:-( Thank you for yor help!…

  Domain cancellation is actually a fairly complicated process. Generally speaking when you cancel a domain it is unavailable for at least a couple of weeks, and there is no guarantee the original owner will ever get it back. That’s why we warn people if they want to continue using the domain it’s always better to transfer the domain or map it to the site they want.

  That having been said, since you cancelled your domain just a couple days after registering it, your wait won’t be so long. Domains cancelled right after they are registered are usually available for sale again within a week or so.

  At that point you can re-register the domain with the registrar of your choice. Note–if you decide to register the domain with someone else and use it with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to purchase the domain mapping upgrade on your WordPress.com site. You’ll want to include that $13 in your price calculations.

  Finally, if you decide you want to re-register the domain with us, you can either wait the week and do that yourself, or let me know and I can try to get it back for you from our registrar sooner.
