Free domain for Personal

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there,

I am considering moving form a Free WordPress Website to a Personal. I already own a .doc with Namecheap and I just paid $17 to WordPress to have that domain linked to my Free WordPress site. I really care about that .doc and I am not interested in changing the name of my website. I am evaluating if it is all worth it in that case to switch to Personal. Would I still have to pay that $17 yearly to connect to my Namecheap domain? Is there a way for me to transfer everything to WordPress and pay a yearly fee for both the Personal subscription and that .doc domain?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi there!

I’ll be happy to assist you today. Just to confirm, did you mean the .com domain (emilieleclerc.com)? You mentioned .doc, so I’m not sure if you were referring to something different.

Assuming you’re referring to your .com domain, you can absolutely transfer it to WordPress.com. When you upgrade to a yearly WordPress.com plan, you get a free domain credit that’s valid for the first year. You can use that credit to transfer the domain to WordPress.com. We’ll renew the domain for a year after the transfer is completed.

From the next year onwards, both the WordPress.com Personal plan and the domain registration will renew with separate fees.

Hope that helps! If you’re ready to upgrade, you can use the button below:
