free domain name is wrong

  My computer shut down when I was registering and my domain name for wordpress.com account is wrong. How do I fix this?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi,

  You can follow the steps here to change your blog address. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

  Please note that there are some warnings that come with this. Namely, the old address will not be re-usable anymore, and the change will not be reversible as well. Good luck!

  Follow up question: I did purchase a domain name. If I change my blog address will I have any trouble with this?

  Can you explain further about your domain name? Did you buy this on WordPress.com or elsewhere?

  And on which site did you want to use this domain name?

  Sure, I’ll explain further (it might be a bit long):
  I had planned to purchase the domain name amyhaines.com and I had gotten all the way to the page where you can purchase that option.
  My computer then shut down unexpectedly before I could complete my purchase for a domain.
  Once I was able to log onto my computer and then sign back into wordpress I discovered that my blog address had defaulted to the name “amyhainesdotcom (spelled out instead of .com).
  Since I had planned to purchase a domain anyway, I went ahead and chose the option to do so via wordpress, figuring that the public would be able to visit my blog via the one I bought (amyreneehaines.com).
  It just bugs me that I see amyhainesdotcom.wordpress.com on my blog instead of amyreneehaines.wordpress.com.
  I believe that no one else can see the incorrect blog address, but I don’t like it.
  I just don’t know if it is worth it to make a change at this point.
  Since I haven’t had a blog before, or any other domain name prior to this I don’t have any followers yet.
  I thought if I were going to change it might be prudent to do it now, unless it will affect the way my purchased domain links to my blog. If so, I’ll just leave it.

  You’re correct that when you bought and use the custom domain, no one will see the default amyhainesdotcom.wordpress.com URL. In the future though, you might want to stop using the custom domain name (for whatever reason), and then you will revert back to using that .wordpress.com URL.

  So it’s a good idea to change now if you want to.

  So the steps will be:

  1) Change amyhainesdotcom.wordpress.com URL to amyreneehaines.wordpress.com URL (using the help page I linked above)

  2) Once you get the correct URL, purchase the domain name amyhaines.com and use it on the amyreneehaines.wordpress.com

  There should be no issue if you do those steps.
