Free domain vs. paid domain ownership
-
My Question: If I get a free account with the extension wordpress.com (for example http://www.traffic.com/wordpress.com) and later deside I want to have the domain http://www.traffic.com – is it possible for someone to take that address (www.traffic.com) and register it as theirs while I have the free account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, it is entirely possible. Anyone can register any custom domain name they like as long as it is currently available.
Your WordPress.com address, is yours forever, however. In your example, that would be traffic.wordpress.com. Nobody else would ever be able to take that, even if you delete it. Traffic.com, however would be fair game until you registered it.

Awesome response. Thank you! I wasn’t even sure if I was clear with what I was trying to ask but you explained it perfectly to me. Thank you!
