Free plugins
-
I was told that WordPress has free plugins by one of your affiliates, Blog with Ben. But I’m being asked to upgrade to a business account to install them. Did I set up something wrong? How come Yoast SEO, Smash Balloon Social Photo and Titan Anti-Spam are not free?

Wether a plugin is free or not, doesn’t mather. If you want to use plugins on the wordpress.com, you must upgrade to the Business Plan.

Hi @triciaak We are not familiar with “Blog with Ben” but it sounds like they are using (and recommending) a self-hosted WordPress site, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.
The self-hosted version of WordPress is free, open source, and completely DIY, but would also allow you to add 3rd party plugins or themes without any additional costs.
Please note that this version of WordPress is usually the choice of web designers and developers, as well as advanced users, so it does not come with support like you have here.
If you wish to stay on WordPress.com and start your site here, you can enable the ability to add 3rd party plugins and/or themes to your WordPress.com site by upgrading to our WordPress.com Business Plan. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Hope this helps!
