  Can I upgrade my site at anytime from free to paid?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Of course you can. Upgrading to a Personal plan gives you access to a custom domain address and the ability to remove the adverts that WordPress.com will display on your free site. The Personal plan is useful if you like messing with custom CSS. The Business plan gives you the freedom to add your own plugins. But you can still do quite a lot with a free plan too.
