  Hi, since when did WordPress sites start costing money? I’ve set them up since 2011, and never cost me a penny…now, $4 p/m minimum. What gives?

  You can quickly create a free site with a subdomain ending in .blog or .wordpress.com. If you wish to use a custom domain then a paid plan is required.
