  I’m building a blog for a Social Media Class at Cuesta College. For the time being, I’d like to use the free site while learning. However, having clicked on “launch,” many times, and nowhere do I see the “free option,” that doesn’t require a financial instrument. I would prefer not to use a financial instrument for a “free” site. Please advise. Thank you.

  Hi there, When you go to launch your site https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/#launch-your-site you might need to type something in the line on the domains screen. Then you’ll see your free .wordpress.com address with the Skip Purchase option at the bottom of that page. After that keep following any other free site prompts.
