Free site with 13GB?

  • Unknown's avatar

My organization has a free site, which WordPress.com says is limited to 3GB (https://wordpress.com/pricing/). However, my Media page indicates ‘You are currently using 3.3 GB out of 13.0 GB upload limit (25%).’ Am wondering how I can have 13GB of storage on a free site w/o having upgraded to a paid site. Am requesting confirmation from WordPress.com that our site has a 13GB limit.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, 13 GB limit is consistent with the Premium plan upgrade.

In order to map your GoDaddy custom domain to your WordPressdotcom web site you would have needed to upgrade your account at some point. If you do have any upgrade under this username for ncsongwriters.org, you’ll see it on the billing page. https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing If you don’t see it there, the upgrade may have been purchased by a different username account.

Regardless, I’ve tagged this thread for Staff attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

OK, thanks for the quick reply. It’s possible the site was upgraded under another username. However, if it’s a Premium site, it shouldn’t have ads, (which it does) we aren’t paying a fee to WordPress.com….

Hello again, You are correct that if you have an upgrade plan, you shouldn’t see any WordPressdotcom ads on your site (unless you activated WordAds).

I’m not seeing any ads on your above site at ncsongwriters.org If you are seeing ads, could you please make a screenshot and upload the image to your site’s Media Library. We’ll wait then for Staff to respond here as they can see behind the scenes on every WordPressdotcom site.

To my knowledge we haven’t activated WordAds, which from what I’ve read is driven by the Jetpack plugin — that plugin is installed, but I can’t find any reference to Jetpack ads in my settings.

I’ve uploaded an image of the bottom of our home page to the Media Library. Thanks for your help!

  • Hi there,

Your site is on the free plan. The site has a domain mapping upgrade and a 10GB space upgrade owned by another user, ncsongadmin, and bought in 2014 when we still sold stand-alone upgrades.

Note that your account also does not own the site in question – the site belongs to the username vocaldreams

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah, thanks — I have the credentials for the ncsongadmin user, and know the person with username vocaldreams, who is no longer involved with our organization. What’s the process for transferring ownership of the site?

  • vocaldreams can transfer ownership of the site to another user via the My Blogs page in the WP-Admin dashboard. You can find the instructions here:

Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account

If you want to transfer any of the upgrades to another account, I’ll need you to post here while logged into the ncsongadmin account to request that.

  • Unknown's avatar

OK, I’m now logged in as ncsongadmin.

To be sure I understand: First, I should ask the owner of vocaldreams to transfer ownership of the site to me, as ncsongadmin. Then I can make a request here to transfer the space upgrade from vocaldreams to ncsongadmin?

Or can we transfer the space upgrade to ncssongadmin now?

    Thanks very much!

  • Your ncsongadmin account already owns the space upgrade and the domain mapping upgrade. You’ll see those upgrades if you visit the Purchases page while logged into this account:

    https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/

So if you want this account to keep owning the upgrades there’s nothing more you need to do in that regard.

Vocaldreams owns the site itself, but they do not own any upgrades.

Got it, thanks. vocaldreams and ncsongadmin are both admins on the account. Can I delete vocaldreams as a User, or does she have to transfer ownership of the site to the ncsongadmin account using the instructions you provided earlier?

  • You cannot delete the owner, so vocaldreams will have to transfer site ownership to your account. That process should automatically remove them as an admin as well.

  • Unknown's avatar

Super, I’ve reached out to the owner. Thanks again for all your help!

  • Happy to help. Take care and good luck.
