free social plugins for wordpress.com sites
-
Hi, social plugins (facebook/twitter etc) should be made available for wordpress.com users. That is one way of getting your name out there and for people to know you and read you.
Once that happens individuals will be driven to get an independent domain however, if wordpress does not assist in doing that it would be tougher for bloggers to stand out.. and waiting for the site to grow organically will take much more time, that can lead to some good writers losing interest. Social media exposure is a must for wordpress.com sites and not just self hosted ones
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com does offer social media sharing.
Dashboard > Settings > Sharing > Publicize … Sharing Buttons
You can link your site to several different social media sites so that when you publish a post, a link automatically also posts on those sites.
Additionally, you can add Share buttons to posts so that visitors can share your posts on their socials sites.
Don’t forget to Save your changes, and you should be good to go.

Thanks for that. However I am talking about having a widget on the right hand side where it says you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram with a symbol option to click and it directs the user to your social media page.
Is that possible with wordpress.com blogs?

You have access to several social media widgets…
Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets
These link to your sites, but aren’t “follow me” type of widgets. Sometimes you can use the widgets available from Twitter or Instagram, etc… but they won’t work if the code uses “flash” or “java.” (that is striped out for security reasons.) If an HTML only coded widget is available you can use that to create custom widget.
Using your Add New Post feature, find an image/graphic you like, link it to your media site, switch to TEXT and copy/cut the code. Go to back to the Widgets directory, using a TEXT WIDGET paste the code, and SAVE. Then you can drag the widget to where you want it in your side bar.
It’s not as complicated as it sounds. It’ll make sense when you start the process.

The existing widgets work really well, and may be what you’re looking for without having to do anything else.

I did the steps u mentioned above, that just shows a static photo appear on my blog page.. dont get how that has anything to do with social media appearing on the top right..
I am after a Facebook icon appearing and then user going straight to my facebook page once they click it..

Your theme Penscratch also has a Menu feature where you can link to your social sites and the icons will appear in your footer.
Dashboard > Appearance > Menus > Manage Locations > Social Links
Create a new menu, then add each site URL and name. The rest is done for you.
