Free theme is not showing up as an option with free account

    I came across this theme and wanted to use it – https://wordpress.com/theme/illustratr – so I signed up for a free account as it said this was a free template to use.

    Now that I’ve created the account, it is not included as an option in the list of themes. Any idea why this could be happening? Thank you.

    Hi,

    It should be in the Themes page, but if you still don’t find it there, then you may go directly to the Illustratr overview, and activate it there, if you have a WordPress.com site or intend to create one, by clicking the “Pick this design” button at the top of the page.

    If you want to use it on a self-hosted site, there’s a download button at the bottom of the Illustratr overview.

    Staff has been called to this topic, and when they will respond here, they may provide additional information and advice.

    Hi there,

    This theme might not be in the list of suggested themes when you first create your site. You can select a different theme to proceed with the site creation and then you’ll be able to switch to it.

    Thanks for your suggestions. When I click on the PICK THIS DESIGN option once I am logged into my account, it just takes me back to the blank page that reads:

    You don’t have any WordPress sites yet.
    Would you like to start one?
    Create Site

    If I log out, I can see the preview again. Just very odd why it is disappearing like that.

    At what point does it give me access to these “other” free templates, such as the one I am trying to use? Thank you again for the help!

    Would you like to start one?

    From what I can see, it looks like you might have not completed the site setup process, as I can confirm that there are not sites under your account currently.

    With this in mind, please start a new site under your account here: https://wordpress.com/start/

    At what point does it give me access to these “other” free templates, such as the one I am trying to use?

    During the site setup process you are presented with a small selection of themes, and you can choose any theme you want at this time. This will allow you to proceed through the steps on-screen to create the initial starter site.

    Once your have done that, you can return to this page, and you should then see the option to activate Illustratr on your newly created site: https://wordpress.com/theme/illustratr/

    From there you should be all set and can start building out your site, now using your preferred theme. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
