Free theme not being very free…

    Hi…14 of the 15 students in my class were able to successfully download the Canard magazine theme for their websites. But one keeps landing on the “Your order is $XX.XX personal page” and because we’re doing all this online I can’t figure out where she went wrong….anyone got a quick fix or check for this? She’s on .com, not .org, so that’s not the issue…thanks!

    Hi @wschacht, I haven’t seen that exact message; would your student be willing to hop in and share a link to the site or the exact message she’s seeing?

    It does kind of sound like she may have inadvertently signed up for a plan rather than picking free options. Paid plans help cover our costs for infrastructure and staffing, so we do feature those in signup and launch flows, but you can skip past them. If she has upgrades in her cart, she can get rid of them by clicking an X next to them.

    Or if that’s not the issue at all, please do have her hop into this thread, if she’s willing, or if you can share the link to the site we may be able to spot the issue.

    Thanks, Supernovia! If I could, I’d forward the screenshot she sent me, but it doesn’t appear that’s an option. I’ll ask her to hop on this thread and see if going one-on-one (as it were) will be more helpful. Thanks, and stay tuned!

    You can upload to https://wordpress.com/media if you’d like! Also if you’ll share the email address she registered with, only staff will be able to see it. And we could use that to take a look.

    Hi there,

    I don’t see any screenshots on the site’s Media Library. Can you please let me know your student’s WordPress.com username or their email address so I can have a look at their account?

    Please note that their email address will only be visible to me and other staff members.

    That’s not a valid WordPress.com site URL. WordPress.com site URLs would not include www or @ which is why there was some confusion here. :)

    Do you instead mean https://digmagclassschacht.wordpress.com/ ? If so, I see the screenshots in question. She has a WordPress.com Personal plan in her shopping cart, not a theme purchase.

    Since the Canard theme is free, you don’t need a paid plan to use it, so I went ahead and removed that plan from her shopping cart.

    Then, she can add it to her site here:

    https://wordpress.com/theme/canard
