Hello –
WordPress.com does offer free hosting, you’re right. However, this is not something that expires. You can host a site for free as long as you want.
Looking at the account I can see that you purchased yinsblog.com, which is a domain. Before making any other changes, I want to find out if you plan to use that domain, or if you want to continue with the free site option which is yinsblogcom.wordpress.com.

A domain is a custom address on web, like yinsblog.com, which you could use with a number of services. You host a website (or several if you use subdomains), set up email, etc.
And hosting is a web service you can use with your domain. For example, you can get email hosting, you could host a WordPress site here with us, or you could use your domain for some other type of service. It’s up to you. And if you change your mind and want to switch to a different email provider, for example, you can do that while keeping the same domain, as long as you own the domain and retain control over it.
If you want to connect a custom domain to a site you have here with us, you’ll need to have an upgraded service plan for that site. You can see our pricing here:
https://wordpress.com/pricingAlso, note our hosting service is different from many other hosts: we only host WordPress sites, and we provide maintenance, security, and direct support. Many other WordPress hosts just provide the space, but you’re in charge of maintenance and whatnot unless you hire someone to do it for you. We have more details here: https://get.wp.com
Let us know if that helps, and what other questions you have!

i just want to have a blog and allow Access to a limited number of people who I will invite. I don’t want to run a business or do anything too advanced. What do I need?

Hi there,
Given that you don’t wish to do anything too advanced, I’d actually recommend proceeding with your site at yinsblogcom.wordpress.com here on WordPress.com. The reason for this is because we have private site functionality built in here, there is nothing more you need to add. We have instructions here: https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/#view-a-private-site
This will block anyone from accessing the site except for specific people you invite to access it. It’s very ironclad.
If you were to set up a WordPress site on another hosting provider (we suggest a few alternatives here) they will use the more advanced-but-DIY version of the WordPress software that does not have this functionality included, so you would need to find a “plugin” to add that ability, plus take the time to set the plugin up. It’s not impossible, but would require more effort.
Because you intend to set up a private site (and do not have to display a public URL) you could use yinsblogcom.wordpress.com as your site address, and refund yinsblog.com for a cost savings.
If you wish to us yinsblog.com as a custom address, as mentioned above you will need to upgrade to one of our plans, it’s not possible to add custom address to free sites on WordPress.com, they must have a plan. You may with to use our lowest cost plan, which is similar to the “hosting” costs that other providers charge, since other providers do not offer a free option such as we do.
If you do opt to upgrade to the Personal plan, and choose the “Yearly” option, please let us know. Our yearly plans include a domain free for the first year, so we will compensate by refunding the domain cost you have incurred so far.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
