  There’s a page that talks about the 1 year free trial, does that mean I will not be billed for the first year and only start getting billed when the year elapses?

  Could you share a link to that page. As far as I am aware you need to pay for any upgrades here immediately but there is a 30 day refund window (96 hours in the case of a custom domain).
  You could of course create a free site here that you could use forever.
