Free username is taken

  My first choice for a free username is taken. The individual using it appears to have created it in 2010 but has never utilized it. I am asking for assistance in making this available. There has to be a way.

  Hi there,

  Deleted usernames on WordPress.com are never recycled and an existing username cannot be reassigned under any circumstances. Even if the person is not using the username on WordPress.com, they might be using it on other services via the Gravatar.com website and reassigning the username would cause their accounts on all other connected services to break, so we cannot do this.
