Free Website Option Not Available

    I am trying to set up my first site on wordpress.com subdomain, but I do not get the free website option anywhere in the domains / extensions list. There is no free plan in the plan selection screen. Even the personal plan comes with $4 monthly fee.

    Hi tedge, if you want a free site, you’ll need to pick a free domain in the domain step, so go ahead and type tedge.wordpress.com or tedge.home.blog or any of the free extensions listed here:

    The address will need to be available, too.

    Next, on the plan selection screen, look to the top where you have an option to use a free site for now.

    Then you should be set. Let us know if you need more help.

    The tedge.home.blog comes with $22 renewal fee.

    Hmm, that’s a bug. We have multiple sign-up flows. If you want to troubleshoot this more, let me know which page or button you clicked to sign up, and we can try that from our end.

    Or if you’d like, you’d also be welcome to just go ahead and add it from a .blog landing page and it should work there. Click on any of these, click the button to create your own, then type the full address as you’d like it. You’ll still see a list but your free site name should be there. Then skip a plan if you don’t want that.

    Taking that back, since the list isn’t clickable, sorry about that! Type any of these addresses like home.blog or tech.blog, or whatever you like. Then use the button to create a site. As long as the name you want is available, it should be listed and say it’s free.

    Now it looks like I am getting a differently looking plan selection screen with free subdomain option.

    Unfortunately it is still a no go.

    As soon as I click on the FREE button I get the screen saying this Something went wrong…Please go back and try again. If the problem continues, please contact our support team.(opens in a new tab)..

    This is because there is a suspended site on your account.

    If you contacted us through the “click here to contact us” link in the notice on your Dashboard, our Terms of Service department definitely received your request, and they’ll be getting back to you ASAP.
