Free Word Press Theme that is not available to select

  • Unknown's avatar

I found the Ashe free word press theme I love (https://wordpress.org/themes/ashe/), but when I go to select it as a theme is it not listed with all the other free templates. Then if I try to upload it, it says I need the business level. How can I get the free template to show up?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

WordPress.com has selected themes available in the “Theme Showcase“, you can choose any of these themes for your site. New themes are added regularly.

The theme you are looking for (ashe) is not part of the showcase at present.

As you mentioned uploading a theme needs Business Plan upgrade.

  • Hi there,

Themes available for use on WordPress.com can be found at My Site ->Themes

WordPress.org is something completely different, and themes listed there cannot be used on WordPress.com unless you have the Business Plan, even if they’re listed as free on WordPress.org.

    Hi there,

For the record, unlike to most comments which can be found online, I tried to add some theme(Sydney theme) and plugin(Elementor) in an account of WordPress.com business plan owned by an associated company, I could not find the plugin nor the theme. I am very interested to know the strategy of WordPress.com on how they decide some plugins/themes listed and some don’t, and I also would like to remind many commentators which cliams that you can add all free plugins and themes with a WordPress.com business plan, that is not entirely correct.

However, I did notice that I could search and find plugin like Elementor in WordPress.com business plan months ago, but it has changed now.

    Regards,

On a business plan site we list the plugins that are in the official WordPress.org repositories, same as when you search for a plugin via a self-hosted WordPress installation. If a plugin developer doesn’t submit their product for review and inclusion in that repository, there is no way for them to be listed. Elementor shows up just fine for me if I search for it at My Site ->Plugins on a Business Plan site.

We only list our own WordPress.com/Jetpack themes, but you can install any theme you downloaded somewhere else using the Upload Theme button that’s visible on sites with the Business Plan. Plugins that are not in the WordPress.org repository can also be installed this way.

    @kokkieh

After receiving your reply, I just checked it again, you are right, I can search and find Elementor plugin this time.

And I don’t know why I could not find it last 2 times I checked it though. Yes, I checked it twice even three times last time.

  • Glad it’s working now :)
