FREE .wordpress domain

  Hello. Is there no longer the option of a .wordpress.com URL for free sites? I have been using WP for over 10 years, encouraging all my students to use it too, but I’m sad to see that some features are no longer available. I don’t like the .blog URL, and don’t want to make my students pay for a wordpress site. Please advice.

  Hi there,

  You can still get a .wordpress.com address. During the signup process, make sure you select “Professional” or “Business” as the site’s purpose, as there’s a bigger chance you’ll be suggested a .blog subdomain instead when you select the “Blog” option.

  Or else you can create a site with a .blog subdomain, and then just change the address afterwards – that will allow you to switch it to a free WordPress.com address instead.
