free wordpress subdomain

  I have a student who I invited to add to our class blog. She would like to set up her own blog. However, in trying to set up her free blog, it always ask for a domain name that she needs to pay for. In the past (and on your help site) it notes that free blogs can have a subdomain on wordpress. However, she can’t get past the ‘Step 3’ where it asks her to identify a paid domain name. Help, please.

  Don’t add anything (especially not a custom domain name) there. Just click “continue” at step three. At step 4 enter a word or phrase and you’re offered a free site (below the two paid for offers). You can fine tune the offered free address (remove some numbers?) before you accept.
