free WP domain ok with paid service plan

  I am assisting friends with a blog at wordpress.com. They will be overseas for 3 years and are on a budget. They will not continue the blog beyond the 3 years. They don’t need or want their own domain, but they would like the personal plan, and have ads removed with more storage space.

  I could not find the answer to this in the forums or in support. Can they pay for the Personal service plan but keep the wordpress.com default/free domain?

  Hi there. Absolutely. There’s no requirement to purchase a custom domain when you upgrade. It’s just one of the available features.
